Pebb’s Team Chat is the main place for real-time conversations across your organization. It lets employees send direct messages, create group chats, share files, react to messages, send GIFs, and stay connected from web or mobile.
Unlike features such as News Feed, Tasks, Files, Wiki, Forms, Events, Shifts, and Clock In, Team Chat sits outside the Spaces view as its own separate organization-wide category. This means chat is available across the organization, making it easy to message people directly or create conversations with teams, branches, Spaces, or selected employees.
Team Chat is also available on the Pebb mobile app, including support for voice calls and video calls, so frontline employees, managers, office teams, and field workers can communicate quickly without needing another messaging app.
What is Team Chat used for?
Team Chat is used for fast, day-to-day communication.
It helps teams replace scattered WhatsApp groups, SMS threads, email chains, and disconnected workplace chat tools with one secure place for work conversations.
Teams use Team Chat for:
1-to-1 employee messages
Manager-to-employee conversations
Group chats
Branch chats
Team chats
Project chats
Quick questions
Shift coordination
Operational updates
File sharing
Voice calls
Video calls
Manager check-ins
Support conversations
Team reminders
Employee onboarding help
Cross-location communication
The goal is simple: when employees need to talk, ask, coordinate, or solve something quickly, they can do it inside Pebb.
Team Chat is organization-wide
Team Chat is different from most other Pebb features because it is not only inside a Space.
It is a separate communication area for the whole organization.
That means users can open Chat from the main Pebb navigation and see their conversations in one place.
This makes it useful for communication across departments, teams, locations, and Spaces.
For example:
A store manager can message a cashier directly.
A hotel operations manager can create a group chat with department leads.
A restaurant owner can message all branch managers.
A construction supervisor can call a field worker.
A warehouse team can use a group chat for loading updates.
An office team can discuss a project without creating a separate Space.
Team Chat keeps all these conversations organized in one communication hub.

Bold text
Numbered steps
Links
Paragraphs
Short instructions
For example, a welcome message may include steps like:

Customer files
Internal materials
For example, a construction worker can send a photo from the job site. A hotel manager can send a PDF. A retail employee can send a screenshot of an issue.

The paper-plane button sends the message.
On mobile, this works the same way, making it easy for employees to respond while on shift or away from a computer.
Message actions
Messages can include quick action icons.
In the screenshot, a message includes icons such as:
Emoji reaction
Reply
More actions
These actions help users interact with specific messages.
React to a message
The emoji icon lets users react to a message.
This is useful when someone wants to respond without writing a full reply.
Examples:
Thumbs up for “Got it”
Smile for friendly messages
Celebration for wins
Checkmark for approval
Reply to a message
The reply icon lets users respond to a specific message.
This keeps conversations clearer, especially in busy group chats.
For example, if someone asks three questions in a group chat, a teammate can reply directly to one message so everyone knows what they are answering.
More message options
The three-dot menu gives access to more message actions, depending on permissions and chat behavior.
This may include actions such as copying, editing, deleting, or other message controls.
Voice and video calls
Team Chat supports voice calls and video calls, including on mobile.
At the top-right of a conversation, users can see call icons:
Voice call
Video call
More options
This means employees can move from chat to a live conversation without leaving Pebb.
Voice calls
Voice calls are useful when typing is too slow or when a quick conversation is easier.
Examples:
A manager calls a team lead before a shift starts.
A restaurant worker calls a manager about a missing item.
A hotel employee calls maintenance about a guest issue.
A construction supervisor calls a worker on site.
A warehouse manager calls a night shift lead.
Video calls
Video calls are useful when seeing something matters.
Examples:
A construction worker shows a site issue live.
A hotel manager walks through a room setup.
A retail employee shows a display problem.
A restaurant manager reviews a kitchen setup.
A remote manager checks in with a branch team.
Video calling is especially helpful for frontline and field teams because many problems are easier to explain visually.

Housekeeping team
Construction Site A crew
Restaurant closing team
Warehouse night shift
Existing Groups
The Existing Groups tab lets users create a chat from an existing group, such as a Space, team, or branch.
This is useful because Pebb already knows who belongs to those groups.
In the screenshot, existing groups include:
Operations Team — Team
Main Office — Branch
Each group shows:
Group name
Number of members
Group type label
Space group
A Space group represents members of a Space.
This is useful when you want a chat for everyone in a specific Space.

Create a chat for the Team Hub Space.
Create a chat for the NY Store Space.
Create a chat for the Housekeeping Space.
Team group
A Team group represents members of a team.

Example:
Main Office
NY Store
Boston Branch
Warehouse 2
This is useful for location-based communication.
Search space / team / branch
The search field lets users find an existing Space, team, or branch quickly.
This is helpful when the organization has many groups.
Create Chat from an existing group
After choosing an existing group, click Create Chat to create a chat for that group.
This is useful when a manager wants to quickly start a group chat with everyone in a specific Space, team, or branch without selecting people manually.
Creating a new group chat
The New Group tab lets users create a custom group chat manually.
This is useful for projects, temporary work groups, committees, or smaller conversations that do not match an existing Space, team, or branch.
Group name
The group name field is where the name of the new group chat is entered.
Example:
Store Books project
Other examples:
Weekend Coverage Team
New Menu Launch
Safety Committee
Front Desk Leads
Inventory Count Team
Site A Supervisors
Holiday Sale Prep
HR Onboarding Group
A good group name should make the purpose of the chat clear.

The Select All option selects everyone in the visible list.
This is useful when creating a group for a whole team or when most people should be included.
Selected people count
The selected people count shows how many users are currently selected.
Example:
3 people selected
This helps the creator confirm the group size before creating the chat.
Selected people
Selected members are highlighted and marked with checkmarks.
In the screenshot, selected people include:
Alex Thompson
Demo Member
James Chen
Create Chat
The Create Chat button creates the new group chat.
Once created, members can begin messaging inside the group.
Group chat menu
Group chats include a menu with management actions.
The menu can include:
Add People
Mute Notifications
Edit Group
Leave Group
Delete Chat
Add People
Add People lets users add more members to the group chat.
This is useful when a new employee joins a team, a project expands, or another manager needs to be included.
Example:
Add a new cashier to the NY Team chat.
Add a maintenance manager to a hotel issue chat.
Add another field worker to a construction project chat.
Mute Notifications
Mute Notifications lets users silence notifications from that chat.
This is useful for busy group chats that are not urgent.
For example, an employee may mute a social or non-critical group chat but keep notifications on for manager or shift-related chats.
Edit Group
Edit Group lets authorized users update the group chat.
This may include changing the group name or managing group details.
Example:
Rename “Store Books project” to “Store Books Launch Team.”
Leave Group
Leave Group lets a user exit the group chat.
This is useful when someone is no longer part of a project, team, or conversation.
Delete Chat
Delete Chat removes the chat.
This should be used carefully, especially for active team or project conversations.
Chat notifications
Team Chat supports notifications so employees know when they receive messages.
Notifications are especially important for frontline teams that rely on mobile devices.
Employees can receive chat notifications on mobile, and depending on organization settings, important communication may also be supported through email or other notification channels.
Users can also mute specific group chats when they do not want to receive alerts from that conversation.
This gives employees more control over noisy conversations while still keeping work communication available.
Team Chat on mobile
Team Chat is fully available on the Pebb mobile app.
Employees can:
Send direct messages
Create or join group chats
Search conversations
Send text messages
Send files and images
Send GIFs
Use emojis
React to messages
Reply to messages
Receive mobile notifications
Mute group chats
Make voice calls
Make video calls
This is one of the most important parts of Pebb for frontline employees.
A retail employee can message a manager during a shift.
A hotel worker can call maintenance from their phone.
A restaurant manager can send a quick update to the closing team.
A construction supervisor can video call someone from the job site.
A warehouse lead can coordinate with the loading team without needing a desktop.
Common use cases
Retail stores
Retail teams can use Team Chat for quick store communication, shift questions, stock issues, and manager updates.
Example:
A store manager creates a group chat for the NY Team. Employees use it to ask shift questions, share quick updates, and coordinate during busy hours.
Restaurants
Restaurants can use Team Chat for kitchen communication, front-of-house coordination, manager updates, and urgent shift issues.
Example:
A manager creates a group chat called “Dinner Shift Team” and adds servers, hosts, and kitchen leads.
During service, employees can send quick updates or call the manager when something needs attention.
Hotels
Hotels can use Team Chat across departments like Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Security, and Food & Beverage.
Example:
A front desk employee sends a direct message to Maintenance about a guest room issue.
If needed, they can start a voice or video call to explain the problem faster.
Construction companies
Construction teams can use Team Chat to coordinate between supervisors, field workers, and office managers.
Example:
A site supervisor creates a group chat for Construction Site A.
Workers can send photos, ask questions, and use video calls when something on site needs review.
Warehouses
Warehouse teams can use Team Chat for loading updates, shift handoffs, inventory issues, and equipment problems.
Example:
A warehouse lead creates a “Night Shift” group chat for the team.
Employees use it to coordinate loading, report issues, and update managers.
Office teams
Office teams can use Team Chat for project discussions, manager check-ins, team channels, and quick collaboration.
Example:
A product team creates a group chat called “Store Books project” and adds the relevant people.
The group uses the chat to discuss tasks, files, deadlines, and updates.
Best practices for using Team Chat
Use 1-to-1 chats for private or focused conversations.
Use group chats when several people need the same discussion.
Create group chats from existing Spaces, teams, or branches when the membership already exists in Pebb.
Create custom group chats for projects or temporary work.
Use clear group names so employees understand the purpose.
Use voice calls when a conversation is easier than typing.
Use video calls when visual context matters.
Share files and images directly in the conversation when needed.
Use reactions for quick replies.
Use replies to keep group conversations organized.
Mute non-urgent group chats if they become noisy.
Avoid using chat for permanent policies or guides. Put long-term information in the Knowledge Library instead.
Use News Feed for announcements that the whole Space should see.
Use Tasks when a chat message needs to become trackable work.
Team Chat vs Spaces
Team Chat works across the organization and sits outside the Spaces view.
Spaces are where teams manage structured work like News Feed, Tasks, Files, Wiki, Forms, Events, Shifts, and Clock In.
Chat is where people talk in real time.
They work best together.
For example:
A manager posts an announcement in the News Feed, then answers questions in Team Chat.
A supervisor creates a Task after a chat conversation.
A hotel employee shares a file in chat, while the official document stays in Files.
A construction worker asks a question in chat, and the final procedure is saved in the Knowledge Library.
Chat is for fast communication. Spaces are for organized work.
Why teams use Team Chat in Pebb
Team Chat gives organizations a simple, work-safe place for direct messages, group chats, voice calls, and video calls.
Employees can message each other, create group conversations, share files, react, reply, mute notifications, and communicate from mobile or web.
Managers can create chats from people, Spaces, teams, and branches, making it easy to connect the right people quickly.
Because Team Chat is organization-wide and separate from the Spaces view, it works as the communication layer across the whole company.
For frontline and office teams, Pebb Team Chat helps replace personal messaging apps and scattered conversations with one central place for work communication.
